What are Solar Cells

Photovoltaic cells/modules or better known as solar panels/cells are plates made of extremely sensitive semiconductors - special silicone based compound - that is able to absorb electrons transmitted from the light rays. The energy knocks electrons loose, allowing them to flow freely, and then be absorbed to flow in a certain direction and create electric current that later on can be used to power our equipment

Types of Solar Cells

Solar Cells in general come in two major types: the crystalline silicon type and thin film amorphous silicon (a-Si) type. The crystalline silicon type was the first to be discovered and its characteristics quickly made it extremely popular, but with time scientists discovered that a special mix of amorphous silicon (a-Si) layered on thin film produces much more energy than the pure crystalline silicon types.

The new technology implementing Amorphous Silicon film solar cells proves to be quite more energy efficient than the regular solar panels and in the same environmental conditions provides about 10% more energy.
